We believe that education should be practical. That is one of the main reasons that we offer technical training classes at this school. Susie has been teaching our students health and basic nursing this year. Some of our 3rd and 4th year students are getting lots of practice putting their learning to use in "real life!" Most importantly, these students are learning to overcome the superstitions of their culture and put into practice the laws of health given to us by our Creator.

Cleaning and dressing wounds - 2nd year

Susie has no fear. Here she is allowing the students to use her arm to practice "stitching" with the staple gun.
And, of course, once it is in...it has to come out:)
Injections - 2nd and 3rd year

Can't practice on just citrus fruit, can you?
One morning Ruan went to Yata fairly early. When he returned he pulled three frozen chickens out of our backpack. I thought he had gone mad. Apparently the folk in Yata also found it strange since everyone nearby knows that the people in the "internado" don't eat meat. In any case, Ruan went on to tell me he had purchased them for Boesman. At that point, I really thought he had gone crazy. Actually, they were for Susie's class. It was time to practice how to put in stitches.

Ok, so not everybody is vegetarian:)

Wow! I thought I was kind of tough--but now I admit that I am a complete wimp in comparison to Susie! That's amazing!
I love that dog! He is just to beautiful!
